What happened to the “great old teachers” devoted to youngsters vs. the ones now hunting for the gravy train?

Appears like teachers Used TO BE underpaid & selfless & now they are overpaid, can not get sufficient & riding on the outdated stereotype of a teacher?
bobby- I’d venture the Really great ones don’t really feel so oppressed, no matter what they’re paid ….

  2. John gibson @foxnews.crap says:

so you want to go back to teachers being underpaid ? many still are underpaid

  3. just some chick says:

Seems like you are using a few poor examples of teachers to make all teachers seem bad. Sure there are great teachers, and bad ones, there always have been.

  4. the briar patch says:

    bullsh1t on the UNION’s,
It’s because the bureaucracy telling the teachers how to, what to, where to, teach! When you take away people creativity they will become bored with their job!……..that’s what we’ve done to teachers.

  5. Yahoo Will Never Silence Me says:

They don’t deserve to be underpaid. As far as it being a “Gravy Train”, it’s not even a Lionel compared to other careers.

  6. imfoxygirl says:

Gravy train? Wages and benifits? Wow! they are greedy.

  7. whiteflame55 says:

Yeah…you have no idea what a teacher gets paid in the status quo. If you did, you wouldn’t be saying they’re overpaid and “looking for the gravy train.” Teachers have livelihoods they have to protect just as well as you do. If yours was being threatened, this idea of selflessness would go right out the window too.

  8. Dr. Zaius says:

what happened to the kindly old banker – wanting to help out his community with loans and a safe place to store money vs the ones that sink entire economies out of personal greed?

  9. Bobby Smith says:

Um, they still exist. They are still underpaid. They have to get a master degree and continuing education which makes them one of the most educated work forces in the United States. They are responsible for future generations and other countries do pay their teachers significantly more and treat them with respect. The public does not treat teachers with respect. I’m not sure why a non-teacher attacks someone who has professional trained and works with kids everyday. That seems odd.
Why are you attacking the middle class? Is it because they have a job, get benefits, and donate 14% or so to their retirement? Is it because they have to get a masters degree (in some states, sorry, I should clarify)? Is it because they have to train on their craft and get certified? Is it because they have to put up with ignorant parents who could care less about their kids unless they get a bad grade? Is it because they put their own money towards supplies for their kids and classes? Is it because they are under scrutiny of the community?
For every bad teacher, how many good ones are out there that no one talks about? Did you have a good teacher? They were the same then as now.
Gravy train? Have you tried to educate today’s kids?
    Please stop buying into lies.

  10. Fed Up says:

So $ 50k/yr and you have a masters is overpaid?

    You know who is overpaid?

    Corporate heads.

How do you know these teachers are bad? Are you in high school?

  11. honestly63 says:

Starting salary for a teacher in Wisconsin is $ 25,222 and average is $ 46,390. That doesn’t sound overpaid to me. My dad was a college professor and when he came home at night, he’d spend hours grading papers, tests and assignments. All teachers put in more hours than you see at school, they are still underpaid and selfless.

These “nice old teachers” in Wisconsin were willing to take the cuts their governor wanted for their state budget, all they wanted was to keep their negotiating rights. That seems fair to me.

  12. Stretch Armstrong says:

In defense of the teachers…visit a school sometime and take a good look at the cr@p they have to put up with…believe me they are not overpaid. Teachers should receive combat pay for some of the $ h!t they have to deal with from pain in the azz kids and bigger pain in the azz parents and even bigger pain in the azz administrators and even bigger pain in the azz state and federal regulations…

What they are is UNDER APPRECIATED. They are unappreciated by kids. Unappreciated by parents. And thanks to this strike they are unappreciated by the public in general.

Teachers aren’t looking for the “gravy train”…the union is looking for the “gravy train”.
