How do I get a Minimal Rich tone on Flute?

Share

I am a senior in high school and I want to build a deep wealthy tone on low notes prior to school. I have been making an attempt to and practicing it but I experience like what I am performing is not functioning. Is there some trick I do not know about??

All of us do long-tome work every day. You can work through the Moyse “De La Sonorite” – but of course, without a fine teacher, it will not help you much. This is all about air speed and angle control, using the upper lip – and nay strange things you do with your head, chin, etc, will completely ruin your best intentions with your embouchure. There are no *tricks* – there is fine teaching (lessons with a degree, professional flutist) and intelligent practice over an efficiently long period of time. You can practice 8 hours a day, and if you do not know what you are doing, then at least 7 hours and 59 minutes of it is a waste of your time. Get a really fine teacher, tell them what you want to do, follow their directions in what THEY tell you that you need to do, and you will see eventual improvement.

Every year, I get students that call me (since I am a judge) to teach them an All-State solo in about 6 weeks. I call this the Annual NYSSMA Miracle. I can get them a LOT better in that time – but never good enough to make AS that year ( Area, yes – sometimes). However, they see such HUGE improvement even in that short intense time with me, they all return the following Fall – to do it RIGHT. I am HARDLY unique – fine teachers are everywhere – just ask! Invest some time and money in yourself if you intend to get good – this is not a DIY project. You can teach yourself to play the ukulele by yourslef in your bedroom – who can tell the difference? But if you play a well-known instrument, and can hear where you are in the Food Chain – then you need LESSONS.
