I would like to become a history or english teacher, but I’m unsure of how to do so. Right now, I’m enrolled as an English and Social Studies Education major (the social studies include history, economics, psychology, and government–meaning I could teach any of these classes), but I’m wondering how much an education degree “involves” what I would be teaching. Would I be better off to double major in English and History and go through a teaching certification program, or to major in English and Social Studies Education and receive my teaching certification upon my graduation?

I just agreed because I have this impulse to always say “ok, sure” because I feel like if I don’t, then I’ll just disappoint someone. Anyway, I realized that I have no talent for the talent portion, and it really got me thinking, I’m just not good at ANYTHING. Everyone is good at something, but when I think about myself, nothing. I’m not even that likable, I’m quiet and I’m not too fond of joking around. I’m not a people person. I try to be as nice as I can so I can make up for my lack of everything else, like how I’m not good at sports or academics. I’m just really ashamed of my life, I don’t show that I’m sad, I always put on a smile and act proper. I think I have a shopping problem, like I really like buying stuff for some reason and my classmates say I’m so lucky I’m ‘rich’ and I live in a nice part of the city (most of them, live near our school [i dont] and it’s not the best part of the city, I got robbed twice on the way to school), I can’t describe it but I’d much rather be them, it’s like, I’m thinking, alright I can afford to spend like $ 80 on a jacket and they’d go “oh my god, you’re so rich” and I’d really much rather be them, they’re good at things, they’re smart, nice, friendly and they’re all talented and special. Or sometimes I wish I could give my life to someone in africa who really deserves to have a home with food and be able to go to school like I do.

I don’t know if it’s love I need, because I’ve had boyfriends before, and they’re GREAT guys and I truly felt loved but I was still unhappy and broke their hearts, I feel really bad about that. I don’t know what to do, I try things but I’m not good at anything, I feel so empty inside.

I know the card works because I was easily able to get online at my local cafe.

In my home I have a 2wire wireless router with SBC Yahoo highspeed internet. I know that works because the PC on which I am currently typing is wirelessly connected to the same router at this very moment. The mac is right next to it and does not recognize the same network. I have also stood right next to the router with it and it still did not pick up the signal.

The salesman at the apple store assured me that the mac and the router are compatible (but perhaps he was just trying to make a sale).

I’ve tried manually entering the name of the network and the WEP passphrase and everything else I had to do to make the pc get online.

Unfortunately the manual does not say much more than “turn it on and it should work” (I am paraphrasing of course).

Any ideas?

“How can I get a NEW car with no money?”

“Where can I get music and movies for free?”

“Where can I get a job starting at $ 50,000 a year without college?”

“How can I get a degree without going to school?”

I’ve also heard more than one 20 year old intern at work whine that they shouldn’t have to work late since they’ve already graduated and have “paid their dues”.

I think we all wanted stuff we didn’t earn at some point but we never actually EXPECTED it. They really seek things they don’t deserve now as if it’s owed to them without any regard to the logistics or consequences of where it comes from. Some of these people are getting into their 20′s and not seeing the light. Had you heard anyone back in “our day” actually ask any of these questions with a straight face, wouldn’t you have thought they we’re mentally ill on on drugs?
